Let’s take something that’s been around for years, loved by all – regardless of ethnicity or diversity; rich or poor, young or old; is inherently democratic because everyone gets a vote on how they want it to be; is meant to be shared so it’s socially conscious; and what do we have…
“With pizza there’s room for every taste, and its crust is the perfect platform for self-expression. The conservative can sit at the same table with the progressive and neither cares or tries to talk the other out of enjoying their slice even if it’s different than their’s. Most people don’t care if another likes their pizza with white sauce instead of tomato.”
I don’t know if you’ve ever thought that pizza had anything profound to teach you. Most of us just love eating it.I do too, but recently I revisited a post I wrote in August of 2013 called, “The Democracy of Pizza”, and I couldn’t help but notice how the message of this lighthearted post was even more relevant today…and so I was immediately inspired to revise it a bit and bring to you, once again its simple message of community and connection…as well as a few recipes.
Growing up, my family would hold court for hours at the kitchen table. Here they nourished their appetite for great food and love of lively conversation. Although our hunger for social connection has shifted greatly from campfire to kitchen table and now to social media, the original hunger remains…to connect to each other in meaningful ways.
Though many may argue that these days cordial conversation between friends and family is tenuous and far more likely to get heated and turn into a screaming match of passionate proportion with little tolerance for other opinions…the fact still remains that…
When it comes to pizza…we can still order an extra large pie, with a variety of toppings, and share it with a diverse group of friends and sit at the same table, despite our differences, and enjoy our slice, our way…even if sometimes, the simplest way to keep the peace is to quietly move to another table.
And so in the interest of national and world peace…I bring you a few great recipes for pizza…sure to please any taste.
